Urgent Psychological Aid Provided to Survivors of Greece’s Deadly Migrant Shipwreck

At least 79 migrants drowned on June 14, and hundreds more are still missing after an overloaded fishing boat capsized off the coast of Greece. Authorities are calling it one of the worst disasters of its kind this year.

The Greek government has announced a three-day period of national mourning for the victims. The tragedy unfolded near the port city of Kalamata, where rescue efforts are ongoing.

CGTN rushed to the scene to document the rescue work. While survivors are reportedly in stable physical condition, rescuers have emphasized the urgent need for psychological support.

“Many of the survivors are in shock and are struggling to cope with the trauma of the incident,” said a spokesperson for the rescue team. “Providing psychological assistance is as crucial as tending to their physical wounds.”

The disaster highlights the perilous journeys that migrants undertake in search of better lives. International aid organizations are mobilizing resources to offer both medical and psychological assistance to the survivors.
