As this year marks the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the ambitious global development strategy initiated by China, youth from around the world are sharing their experiences and insights on its impact. Among them is Japanese student, Takaya Inoue, who is embracing the cultural and educational opportunities fostered by the BRI.
Inoue is currently studying at the language center at Tsinghua University in Beijing, one of China’s most prestigious institutions. Having been a member of Tsinghua’s Student Association of Belt and Road Initiative, Inoue has immersed himself in the vibrant academic and cultural exchange between China and Japan.
“I came to China to broaden my horizons and understand the shared histories and cultural similarities between our two nations,” Inoue shared. “Studying here has given me firsthand experience of how the BRI is not just about economic cooperation, but also about people-to-people connections.”
Inoue highlighted the parallels he sees in Chinese and Japanese architecture, arts, and traditions, noting that these shared aspects provide a foundation for deeper mutual understanding. He believes that increasing exchanges between young people of both countries can strengthen ties and promote regional harmony.
“As a member of the Student Association of BRI, I witnessed how international students come together to discuss and contribute to the initiative’s goals,” Inoue said. “I look forward to more collaborative projects and dialogues that can bridge our cultures.”
The stories of students like Inoue reflect the growing role of the BRI in facilitating educational and cultural exchanges across Asia. As the initiative enters its second decade, it continues to build bridges between nations, fostering a new generation committed to international cooperation and understanding.
