The recent China-Central Asia Summit held on May 18 and 19 in Xi’an, capital of northwest China’s Shaanxi Province, marked a significant step in strengthening ties between China and Central Asian countries. Hosted by Chinese President Xi Jinping, the summit brought together leaders from five Central Asian nations to discuss future cooperation plans.
Among those witnessing the growing bond between China and Tajikistan is Javohir, an international student from Tajikistan studying at Tsinghua University. Drawn to Chinese culture since his high school days, he now finds himself at the heart of one of the Chinese mainland’s most prestigious institutions, embracing opportunities that bridge his home country and China.
“The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has opened numerous doors for Tajikistan,” says Javohir. “We’ve seen improved infrastructure, which makes travel and the transportation of goods much easier. It has also created more job opportunities for our people.”
The BRI, launched by China in 2013, aims to enhance regional connectivity and embrace a brighter shared future. For countries like Tajikistan, it has meant modernization and development in various sectors, fostering economic growth and cooperation.
With aspirations to act as a bridge between Tajikistan and China, Javohir hopes to promote more business ventures, as well as academic and cultural exchanges. “I believe that understanding each other’s cultures and working together academically can lead to even greater opportunities for both of our countries,” he adds.
The sentiments shared by young people like Javohir reflect the broader impact of initiatives like the BRI on individual lives and ambitions, highlighting the human stories behind international cooperation.
