Shanghai’s Community Consultants Enhance Residents’ Quality of Life

Since its launch in 2019 by the Shanghai Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau, the “Community Assistance Consultant” system has been playing a pivotal role in enhancing the quality of life for residents. By forming a comprehensive service team that includes government agencies, professional institutions, and external consultants, the system offers a wide array of support services to those in need.

The services provided encompass policy guidance, agency referrals, mentoring, resource sharing, psychological counseling, and social integration. This holistic approach ensures that individuals receive personalized assistance tailored to their specific circumstances.

Recently, CGTN Stringer accompanied Cao Yun, a dedicated community assistance consultant in Beixinjing Street, on a visit to a beneficiary family. This firsthand experience highlighted how the system works effectively at the grassroots level, fostering strong community bonds and addressing the unique needs of residents.

The “Community Assistance Consultant” system exemplifies Shanghai’s commitment to social welfare and community development. By bridging the gap between government resources and individual needs, it serves as a model for other regions aiming to enhance social support structures.

This initiative not only uplifts the lives of those directly involved but also contributes to the overall social harmony and progress of the city. As Shanghai continues to innovate in social services, programs like this underline the importance of collaborative efforts in building resilient and supportive communities.
