President Xi Jinping Extends Festive Greetings to Elderly in Fujian Province

Respecting the elderly is a cherished tradition and virtue in China, reflecting the nation’s deep-rooted values. On January 18, President Xi Jinping, also the general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, held a video call with the Fuzhou Social Welfare Institute in southeast China’s Fujian Province. He extended festive greetings to the elderly residents and the staff who care for them.

During the call, President Xi emphasized the importance of ensuring a happy and fulfilling life for the elderly, especially as China’s population continues to age rapidly. He highlighted that the well-being of senior citizens depends on the collective efforts of society. “As our population ages, it’s imperative that we provide support and care to our elders,” Xi stated.

Liu Xiaolan, a resident at the institute, expressed her heartfelt gratitude for President Xi’s concern. “President Xi cares about us,” she said warmly. Her sentiments echoed the feelings of many elderly residents who felt valued and remembered during the festive season.

The staff at the welfare institute were also encouraged by the president’s recognition of their dedication. “His acknowledgement motivates us to continue providing the best care possible,” a nurse at the institute shared.

President Xi’s outreach reflects the broader commitment of the Chinese government to enhance social welfare programs and support systems for the aging population. By fostering a culture of respect and care, China aims to ensure that its elderly citizens enjoy dignity and happiness in their later years.
