Cities across the Chinese mainland are gradually adjusting their COVID-19 prevention and control measures, aiming to protect people’s health while minimizing the impact on daily life and the economy. These new policies have facilitated the resumption of work and production, signaling a hopeful return to normalcy.
Hungarian designer Steven Back, who has lived in Shanghai for nearly 18 years, has witnessed these changes firsthand. Taking to the streets, he documented the city’s evolving landscape as it adapts to the optimized measures. According to Back, the adjustments have provided residents with greater certainty over their daily lives.
“The new COVID-19 measures are a relief to everyone,” Back shared. “There’s a palpable sense of optimism as businesses reopen and people feel more secure about their routines. It’s encouraging to see the economy moving towards its pre-pandemic growth.”
The measures not only aim to safeguard public health but also strive to rejuvenate social development and economic activities. As Shanghai and other cities navigate this transition, there is a collective hope that these steps will lead to sustained recovery and prosperity.
