Karl-Heinz Gass, an 80-year-old meat processing entrepreneur from Frankfurt, Germany, has embarked on an extraordinary journey with the Chinese mainland, visiting the country 292 times over nearly four decades. Gass’s story began with a chance encounter in 1981 when he met General Yang Dezhi of the People’s Liberation Army during a visit to Switzerland.
