China’s Summer Wheat Harvest in Full Swing Amid Pandemic

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact the world, China is forging ahead with its crucial summer wheat harvest. According to the latest data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, over 121 million mu (approximately 8 million hectares) of wheat have been harvested across the country. Remarkably, the daily harvest area has exceeded 20 million mu for two consecutive days, signaling a significant stride in securing the nation’s food supply.

The harvest is progressing steadily from south to north across major wheat-producing regions. In Yuncheng, Shanxi Province, the golden fields are abuzz with activity. Local photographer Bao Dongsheng has been capturing the essence of this agricultural season. Through his lens, he documents the meticulous process of wheat harvesting, from the synchronized reaping in the fields to the traditional drying of grains and the innovative recycling of straw.

“The aroma of freshly cut wheat fills the air,” Bao describes. “Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, farmers are working tirelessly to ensure a bountiful harvest.”
