Chinese Ambassador Qin Gang Advocates for Win-Win China-U.S. Relations

Chinese Ambassador to the U.S. Qin Gang has called for a cooperative approach between China and the United States, emphasizing the importance of a “win-win” relationship. His remarks came in response to U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s comments on the U.S. policy of “invest, align, compete” towards China at the Global Economic Summit in Indiana.

During his speech, Blinken expressed readiness to increase communication with China, stating, “We remain committed to intense diplomacy, alongside the intense competition.” However, Qin Gang suggested that competition should not dominate the bilateral relationship. “A good bilateral relationship features win-win cooperation,” Qin said. He elaborated that a “healthy” form of competition should enable both China and the U.S. to grow stronger together, rather than one side seeking to outdo the other.

Qin highlighted the substantial common interests shared by the two nations and their significant responsibilities as the world’s two largest economies. He stressed that both countries should adhere to “universally recognized” international rules, such as those established by the World Trade Organization (WTO) on trade. “Confrontations such as the trade war will hurt the interests of the people of both nations,” he warned.

The ambassador also called for the removal of trade tariffs imposed during previous trade disputes. “We call for the elimination of tariffs,” Qin stated, underscoring the detrimental impact that such measures have on global economic stability and the prosperity of both countries.

Qin’s comments reflect a desire for a more collaborative and less adversarial approach to U.S.-China relations, highlighting the potential benefits of cooperation in addressing global challenges and promoting economic growth. His remarks suggest a willingness on China’s part to engage in dialogue aimed at reducing tensions and fostering mutual understanding.
