Speaking at the Global Economic Summit, Chinese Ambassador to the United States Qin Gang reassured foreign businesses that China remains steadfast in its commitment to opening up and welcoming investment.
Ambassador Qin emphasized that the impacts of recent lockdowns are temporary setbacks. “The foundation of China’s strong market demand remains unchanged,” he stated, highlighting the country’s resilience and continued potential for growth.
Addressing concerns about stringent pandemic measures, Qin explained that while the pandemic posed significant challenges, the Chinese government’s resolute actions were necessary to curb the virus’s spread swiftly and effectively in a highly populated nation. He clarified, “Our strict policy is not about eliminating the virus entirely but about controlling its rapid spread at minimal cost.”
In a move to facilitate international collaboration, practical progress has been made in adjusting pandemic measures. Beijing has opened “fast track lanes” for U.S. entrepreneurs entering China, easing the process for business travel between the two countries. Additionally, plans are underway to increase the number of international flights between China and the U.S. by 12, bringing the total to 30 flights connecting the two major economies.
The ambassador also announced positive developments for educational exchanges. “Some international students will soon be able to return to China to continue their studies,” Qin revealed, signaling a step towards normalizing academic and cultural ties disrupted by the pandemic.
