Kyiv Mother Seeks Refuge in Hospital Amid Conflict

Kyiv, Ukraine — Amid the ongoing conflict, approximately 400 people have found shelter within the walls of the Shalimov National Institute of Surgery and Transplantology, a renowned hospital in the heart of Kyiv. Among them is Eva, a local resident who has taken refuge with her children for the past four days.

Eva, like many others, sought safety as tensions escalated in the city. "The hospital has become our sanctuary," she shared. "It’s a place where my children can feel a semblance of normalcy despite everything that’s happening outside."

The hospital staff have been working tirelessly to accommodate the influx of residents seeking refuge. Patients and displaced families coexist within the facility, highlighting the community’s resilience and solidarity during these challenging times.

One of the hospital volunteers noted, "We’ve transformed parts of the hospital into temporary living spaces. Everyone is doing their part to support each other."

Eva’s story is one of many, reflecting the human side of the conflict that has gripped the region. Her days are filled with uncertainty, but also with moments of hope. "The kindness of strangers has been overwhelming. We share stories, food, and look after each other’s children," she said.

The situation in Kyiv remains fluid, with many residents facing difficult choices. International organizations have called for increased support and humanitarian aid to assist those affected.

For now, Eva focuses on the well-being of her family. "I just want my children to be safe. That’s all any mother wants."

The courage and unity displayed by Eva and others at the hospital serve as a poignant reminder of the strength found in community during times of crisis.
