As tensions heighten in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, Chinese students like Li Tongle are enduring increasingly difficult conditions. Li, a university student residing in Kharkiv, has shared his experiences within the university compound, painting a picture of uncertainty and hardship.
“We’ve been hearing gunfire for the past few days,” Li recounts, highlighting the escalating conflicts in the area. The constant sound of gunshots has instilled a sense of fear among the students, disrupting their daily lives and studies.
Adding to their challenges, vital utilities such as electricity and hot water have been cut off. “Without power and hot water, it’s becoming harder to maintain even basic living standards,” Li explains. The lack of these necessities is compounding the difficulties faced by the students, many of whom are far from home and family.
Food supplies are dwindling, and the students are in urgent need of assistance. “We are running low on food,” Li says, expressing concern for the well-being of the Chinese student community in Kharkiv.
The situation underscores the broader impact of the ongoing conflict on international students and foreign nationals in Ukraine. The Chinese students are hoping for support to help them through these trying times.
