Brazilian Scholar Fernando Tiburcio Urges Democracies to Reflect Internally

Brazilian scholar and human rights lawyer Fernando Tiburcio has called for democratic nations to examine their own systems before promoting their models to others. Speaking with CGTN Global Stringer, Tiburcio emphasized that democracy manifests in various forms around the world.

“Democracy comes in many forms, so we cannot impose our form of democracy on other countries,” Tiburcio stated. “Before talking about democracy in other countries, we need to look inside our democracies.”

Tiburcio, who has advised leaders in Brazil, Bolivia, and other South American countries, highlighted the importance of introspection among democratic nations. His career, focused on international human rights, positions him as a prominent voice in discussions on global governance and political systems.

His remarks come at a time when debates over the universality of democratic models are intensifying. Tiburcio’s perspective encourages a more humble approach to international relations, acknowledging cultural and political differences while promoting mutual understanding.
