Syrian Entrepreneur Rebuilds Homeland from Yiwu, China

Bassey, a Syrian entrepreneur, has found a new home in Yiwu, east China’s Zhejiang Province. Since arriving in 2011, he has established a thriving building materials business that supports both his adopted community and his homeland.

“For me, sending building materials to Syria is like rebuilding my home,” says Bassey. Despite the challenges, he is determined to assist his relatives and compatriots in Syria by providing much-needed supplies for reconstruction efforts.

Having married a Chinese woman, Bassey has settled in Yiwu for the past nine years. His journey reflects a deep desire to bridge his Syrian roots with his life in China. “I really want to connect my hometown with my new home here,” he shares.

Bassey’s story is one of resilience and connection, illustrating how business can serve as a bridge between cultures and communities. Through his efforts, he hopes to foster understanding and support between Syria and China, while contributing positively to both societies.
