Tibet, often referred to as the “Roof of the World,” has long captivated the hearts of travelers with its majestic landscapes and rich cultural heritage. For South Korean writer Moogil, Tibet became the setting for a profound and unforgettable experience.
In 2018, Moogil made his first journey to Tibet, drawn by its spiritual allure and breathtaking scenery. The journey left such a deep impression that he returned the following year. It was during his second visit in 2019 that he was invited to attend a traditional wedding on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
“Dressed in Tibetan clothes, making a bouquet with Tibetan wildflowers… To put it simply, this wedding was second to none in the world,” recalled Moogil with enthusiasm. The ceremony was not just a union of two people but a celebration of Tibetan culture and traditions.
What made the wedding even more special was the couple’s story. The groom had traveled all the way to Tibet to marry the woman he loves, embracing her cultural roots and customs. The wedding fused traditions, symbolizing love that transcends borders.
The experience left an indelible mark on Moogil. “Witnessing their love and the beauty of Tibetan traditions was truly inspiring,” he said. The authenticity of the ceremony, set against the backdrop of the towering Himalayas and vast open skies, offered a glimpse into the daily life and heartfelt customs of the local people.
Through his journey, Moogil discovered not just the stunning vistas of Tibet but also the warmth and hospitality of its residents. His stories serve as an invitation to others to explore the richness of Tibetan culture and the unique experiences that await on the plateau.
