Belgian Pianist Unites Hearts with ‘CHOR’ Album Dedicated to COVID-19 Solidarity

Belgian pianist Jean-François Maljean has released a heartfelt new album titled “CHOR” on October 1, aiming to bring solace and unity to those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The album serves as a global call for solidarity, weaving together musical traditions to foster a sense of a shared future for humanity.

“CHOR” features songs that resonated deeply during the height of the epidemic, including pieces like “The Bells of Dawn,” “Sakura Luo,” and “De Wuhan à Paris.” These tracks became anthems of hope and resilience, echoing across borders and cultures. In addition to these familiar melodies, Maljean composed six new piano pieces specifically designed to soothe emotions and uplift spirits as the world navigates the aftermath of the pandemic.

The album’s centerpiece, “Living Together,” marks a significant milestone in Maljean’s career as it showcases his first performance singing in Chinese. This song beautifully blends the delicate tones of the Hubei chime—a traditional Chinese instrument from the region heavily impacted by the early stages of the pandemic—with his signature piano accompaniment. The fusion of Western and Eastern musical elements in “Living Together” symbolizes the collective journey and mutual support shared by people worldwide during these challenging times.

Maljean’s initiative reflects a profound understanding of music’s universal language and its power to heal and connect people across diverse backgrounds. By embracing Chinese musical influences and language, he extends a hand of friendship and compassion to Asia and the global community. His work underscores the importance of cultural exchange and unity in overcoming global challenges.

As countries continue to recover and rebuild, “CHOR” offers a melodic reminder of the strength found in solidarity and the shared human experience. It’s an invitation to reflect, heal, and move forward together, reinforcing the bonds that tie communities worldwide.
