On the morning of August 16, patrol officers on Sansha Xishazhou Island in Hainan Province, the southernmost part of China, made a remarkable discovery during their routine duties and beach cleanup efforts. They stumbled upon tracks of a sea turtle and a nest filled with freshly laid eggs.
The officers surmised that the sea turtle had come ashore the previous night to lay her eggs. However, the nest was perilously close to the shoreline, posing a significant risk to the eggs due to potential erosion from salty seawater. Recognizing the danger, the officers promptly reported the situation to the management committee of the Qilianyu Working Committee.
With approval, the patrol officers carefully excavated the nest to relocate the eggs to a safer location inland. Their swift action aimed to protect the vulnerable eggs from environmental hazards, increasing the chances of successful hatching.
