West Africa’s First Standard Gauge Railway Connects Lagos and Ibadan

West Africa has achieved a significant milestone with the construction of its first standard gauge railway, the Lagos-Ibadan Railway. Spanning 156 kilometers, this new line connects Nigeria’s largest port city, Lagos, to one of its most important industrial centers, Ibadan.

The railway is poised to greatly reduce traffic congestion on intercity roads and at local ports, facilitating smoother transportation of goods and people across the region. This development is expected to boost economic growth and enhance connectivity within Nigeria and potentially with neighboring countries.

During a visit to the construction site, Yakubu Adogie, the project’s external liaison officer, showcased the progress being made. The railway represents a major step forward in infrastructure development, signaling a new era of modern transportation in West Africa.
