In the heart of Iran’s Qom province, a beacon of hope shines amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. The People’s Relief Headquarters, a local charity organization, has provided financial assistance to approximately 15,000 vulnerable families affected by the health crisis. With plans to extend support to an additional 5,000 families, the charity’s efforts are set to impact a total of 20,000 households struggling due to the pandemic.
Since February, when the coronavirus outbreak led to widespread unemployment, Mahmoud Parchebaf, the manager of People’s Relief Headquarters, and his dedicated team have been on the front lines of community support. Utilizing local support centers, they identified families in need and distributed 5,000,000 Iranian rials (approximately 118 U.S. dollars) to each household.
“We witnessed firsthand the hardships faced by our community members,” Parchebaf shared. “Our mission is to alleviate some of their financial burdens during these unprecedented times.”
Recognizing the ongoing health needs, the charity has also applied for a license to establish a mask production workshop. This initiative aims to address the dire shortage of masks in the country, further contributing to public health efforts.
The People’s Relief Headquarters’ commitment exemplifies the resilience and solidarity within Iranian society as communities come together to support one another during a global crisis.
