Angel on Wheels: Rodrigo’s Mission to Aid Mexico City’s Vulnerable During the Pandemic

When the COVID-19 pandemic struck Mexico, many faced unprecedented challenges. Among them, Rodrigo Heredia Chia emerged as a beacon of hope. A businessman, social activist, amateur rescue worker, and avid biker, Rodrigo harnessed the power of social media to rally support for those hit hardest by the crisis.

Understanding the plight of those who lost their jobs, marginalized communities, and impoverished families, he established a collaborative network to raise funds. With donations pouring in, Rodrigo filled his motorbike with food purchased from local markets and personally delivered essentials to families across Mexico City. Each delivery provided enough sustenance to support a household for two to three weeks, bridging the gap until governmental assistance could reach them.

Rodrigo is no stranger to stepping up in times of need. In 2017, when a devastating earthquake rocked the city, he made headlines for his fearless participation in search and rescue missions, pulling survivors from the rubble. Today, amidst a different kind of crisis, his commitment to his community remains unwavering.

“Back then, I was helping people by getting them out of the rubble and saving their lives,” Rodrigo reflects. “I am still helping my community, but this time the context is different: it’s a pandemic never seen before in Mexico.”

Rodrigo’s story is a testament to the impact one individual can have. His selfless actions not only provide immediate relief but also inspire others to contribute in any way they can. As communities worldwide grapple with the ongoing effects of the pandemic, stories like Rodrigo’s remind us of the power of compassion and solidarity.
