Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, one Slovakian woman has become a beacon of hope in her community. Zdena Nemethyova, an ordinary resident, has made an extraordinary contribution by sewing face masks to address the shortage of protective supplies in Slovakia.
Recognizing the critical need for masks, Nemethyova channeled her efforts into creating a Facebook group called “Sewing masks.” The group, which now boasts over 2,000 members, has collectively made and distributed over 11,000 face masks to more than seven hospitals across the country.
“I am someone who is constantly suffering from a guilty feeling that I’m not doing enough,” Nemethyova shared. Driven by this sentiment, she collaborated with a web portal to meet the growing demand for face masks in Slovakia. Her initiative not only provided essential protective gear but also brought together a community united by a common purpose.
