Addis-Djibouti Railway Fuels Ethiopia’s Youth-Driven Future

The Addis-Djibouti Railway, a 752-kilometer modern rail network linking Ethiopia to Djibouti's ports, is reshaping lives far beyond its tracks. By creating over 3,000 direct jobs and countless indirect opportunities, the railway has become a catalyst for youth empowerment in one of Africa's fastest-growing economies.

Stories like Lemi, a 24-year-old track inspector, and Simret, one of Ethiopia's first female international train conductors, highlight the project's transformative impact. "This railway isn't just steel and concrete—it's a bridge to our aspirations," Simret told KhabarAsia. The line has also slashed cargo transit times from 3 days to 18 hours, boosting regional trade ties between Africa and Asia.
