This metamorphosis began in the 1990s when local entrepreneurs recognized an opportunity in musical instrument manufacturing, initially producing components for foreign brands.
"We started by studying disassembled guitars piece by piece," recalls luthier Zhang Qiang, whose family once farmed wheat. "Now our workshops craft premium instruments sought by Grammy-winning artists." Today, over 60 guitar manufacturers operate in Changle, employing 80% of local residents and producing 1.6 million instruments annually.
