Uzbek Professor Finds ‘Second Home’ in China’s Shandong Province

Shandong Province, China — For Professor Farkhod Kasimov, an academic from Uzbekistan, the bustling streets and serene landscapes of Shandong Province have become more than just a place of work; they have become his ‘second home’.

Embracing an opportunity created by the Belt and Road Initiative, Professor Kasimov relocated to eastern China to further his research and collaborate with Chinese scholars. The move has not only advanced his academic pursuits but also immersed him in a new culture that he has grown to love.

“The natural beauty of Shandong is breathtaking,” Kasimov shares. “From the coastal scenery to the lush mountains, it’s a place where tradition meets modernity.” He highlights how the province’s advanced transportation links, including high-speed railways and efficient public transport, have made his daily life convenient and opened doors to explore other regions.

The Belt and Road Initiative, aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and economic cooperation, has facilitated Kasimov’s journey. “It’s more than infrastructure; it’s about people-to-people connections,” he explains. “I’ve had the chance to engage with students and colleagues, exchanging ideas and fostering mutual understanding between our countries.”

Kasimov is particularly impressed with the lifestyle in Shandong. “The community is welcoming, and the way of life balances work and leisure perfectly,” he notes. “I’ve found a place where I can grow professionally while enjoying all that life has to offer.”

As more academics like Kasimov find opportunities through initiatives promoting international collaboration, stories like his underscore the growing ties between Uzbekistan and China. “I encourage others to step beyond their borders,” he advises. “You never know where you might find your next home.”
