Famed for its rich history and culture, Hangzhou has long been a city that treasures its ancient landmarks. Zhang Chao, a local designer with a passion for preserving his city’s heritage, is bridging the gap between the past and the future by recreating Hangzhou in video games.
“We’ve recreated Hangzhou in a video game. This gives people around the world the opportunity to explore our city,” said Zhang. With a background in design and a wide range of interests, Zhang saw an opportunity to use technology to share the beauty of Hangzhou’s historic sites with a global audience.
By meticulously modeling the city’s iconic landscapes and architecture, Zhang’s digital rendition allows users to virtually roam the streets, visit ancient temples, and experience the essence of Hangzhou without leaving their homes. This innovative approach not only preserves the city’s cultural heritage but also promotes it to international visitors who may one day choose to experience Hangzhou in person.
Hangzhou’s commitment to preserving its past while embracing the future is exemplified in Zhang’s project. As technology continues to evolve, such initiatives highlight the potential for digital platforms to play a significant role in cultural preservation and exchange.
