Local fishermen, who once relied on cage culture fish farming for their livelihoods, are now cultivating mangoes, contributing to both environmental preservation and economic prosperity.
Cage culture fish farming had provided a steady income for villagers for years. However, as the practice expanded, it began to negatively impact the delicate ecosystem of the Yangtze River’s upper reaches. The river, a lifeline for countless communities, was suffering from pollution and habitat disruption due to the increasing scale of aquaculture activities.
Recognizing the environmental threats, the local government initiated programs to encourage sustainable agricultural practices.
