Discovering China Through the Lens of a Bangladeshi Student

For six years, Bangladeshi student Md Mahedi Hassan Sunny has been capturing the essence of China through the lens of his camera. As an undergraduate at Peking University’s School of Journalism and Communication, Sunny combines his passion for photography with an eagerness to explore the diverse facets of his adopted home.

Throughout his journey, Sunny has traversed China’s vast landscapes, documenting the rich tapestry of cultures, the strides in poverty alleviation, and the nation’s technological advancements. In Xinjiang, he witnessed the harmonious coexistence of various ethnic groups. In the provinces of Fujian and Jiangxi, he observed firsthand the transformative effects of China’s poverty alleviation initiatives. His experiences reached a pinnacle when he participated in the “Salute to the People” performance during the Beijing Winter Olympics.

“Seeing is believing,” Sunny reflects, as he endeavors to share the authentic stories of China with the world. His latest exploration takes him to Beijing’s Yizhuang Autonomous Driving Pilot Zone, where he captures the forefront of China’s innovation in autonomous vehicle technology.

Sunny’s photographic journey is not just a personal endeavor but a bridge connecting cultures and fostering understanding. Through his images, he hopes to dispel misconceptions and present a nuanced perspective of China’s dynamic society.

As China’s influence on the global stage continues to grow, stories like Sunny’s offer valuable insights. His lens not only captures moments but also the spirit of a nation in motion, inviting global audiences to witness China’s evolution through his eyes.
