Transitioning to a new school can be challenging, but for student Lia Rivero, the experience has been particularly difficult. Moving from Long Island to New York City, Lia enrolled at Urban Dove TEAM Charter School, where she faces a lack of support and resources.
“Originally, I’m from Long Island, so from that transition to here is very different. I transitioned to a new school, called Urban Dove TEAM Charter. Nobody’s encouraging me to do anything in that school, and it’s very, very hard. The work is not as easy. There’s no counsellors in my school. It’s really bad,” said Lia.
Lia’s story highlights the struggles students can face in under-resourced educational environments. Without access to counselors and adequate support, students may find it difficult to cope with academic pressures and adjust to new settings.
Her experience sheds light on broader issues of educational inequality and the importance of providing sufficient resources to all schools to ensure students receive the support they need to succeed.
