Beijing Celebrates Year of the Horse with Art and Tradition

The Beijing Fine Arts Academy has become a vibrant hub of cultural exchange this February, hosting a special exhibition celebrating the Lunar New Year's Year of the Horse. Running through the Spring Festival period, the event showcases how China's ancient equestrian heritage continues to inspire contemporary artistic expression.

Visitors can explore more than 120 works spanning traditional ink paintings, modern sculptures, and digital installations – all interpreting the horse's symbolic associations with vitality, perseverance, and prosperity. A highlight includes interactive workshops where participants create paper-cut designs featuring galloping stallions, a popular Lunar New Year decoration.

"This exhibition bridges our rich history with modern creativity," said curator Li Wei during a press preview. "Just as horses carried civilization forward along the Silk Road, they now carry our cultural legacy into the digital age."

The event coincides with increased interest in cultural tourism following recent infrastructure improvements to Beijing's historic art district. With Spring Festival travel projections indicating strong domestic tourism numbers for 2026, the academy has extended evening hours to accommodate both local residents and international visitors.
