SCO Film Festival Kicks Off in Chongqing, Blending Tech & Global Cinema

The 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Film Festival launched in Chongqing on Thursday, merging cutting-edge technology with cinematic artistry under the theme 'Technology & Film ยท Charm of the SCO.' The five-day event features film screenings from SCO member states, interactive tech exhibitions, and forums exploring cross-border collaboration in the creative industries.

Highlights include drone light shows synchronized to film scores and tourism promotion initiatives linking cultural heritage sites across Asia. Over 30 films will compete for the Jinshancha (Golden Camellia) Awards, with winners announced at the July 6 closing ceremony. The festival coincides with the 130th anniversary of global cinema and 120th year of Chinese filmmaking, positioning itself as a bridge for cultural dialogue ahead of the upcoming SCO Summit.

Chongqing's municipal government emphasized the event's role in fostering 'shared storytelling through innovation,' particularly in emerging fields like AI-driven film production. Industry leaders from Russia, India, and Central Asian nations are participating in roundtable discussions on co-production opportunities.
