LUOYANG, China – For over 1,300 years, Tang Sancai pottery has symbolized the cultural brilliance of China\u2019s Tang dynasty. Now, this tri-colored glazed art form is experiencing a remarkable revival, blending ancient techniques with 21st-century creativity.
The distinctive yellow, green, and white ceramics – designated as national intangible cultural heritage in 2008 – recently captivated viewers on the \u201cCulture China Tour\u201d program. At Luoyang Museum\u2019s exhibition hall, travelers and history enthusiasts gather daily to marvel at figurines reflecting Tang dynasty aesthetics, from elegant noblewomen to Silk Road camels bearing foreign goods.
\u201cThe magic happens in the kiln,\u201d explains master artisan Li Wei, whose family has preserved traditional firing methods. The 30-step process transforms raw clay into flowing chromatic masterpieces through carefully controlled glaze interactions at 1,000°C.
While honoring ancestral methods, innovators now expand Tang Sancai\u2019s possibilities.
