CMG Champions Chinese Language, Culture at Geneva Event

China Media Group (CMG) spotlighted cultural diplomacy in Switzerland this week, co-hosting a vibrant showcase of Chinese language and heritage alongside international partners in Geneva. The 2025 United Nations Chinese Language Day preview event and 5th CMG Chinese Language Video Festival drew over 300 global representatives to the historic Palais des Nations on April 15.

Organized with the UN Office at Geneva and other international bodies, the gathering served as a prelude to the annual UN observance of Chinese Language Day on April 20. Diplomats from 50 countries mingled with cultural advocates and media professionals during exhibitions featuring calligraphy demonstrations, poetry recitals, and screenings of award-winning documentaries produced by CMG.

A CMG spokesperson emphasized the festival's role in "building bridges through shared appreciation for linguistic diversity," noting the event series has expanded its global reach since its 2019 inception. UNESCO representatives highlighted multilingualism as essential for achieving UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The festival's programming included previews of upcoming initiatives to promote cross-cultural understanding through digital media, positioning Chinese language education as both a diplomatic tool and economic opportunity. Planning is already underway for expanded cultural programming leading up to the 2025 UN Chinese Language Day celebration.
