Huaqing Palace Revives Tang Dynasty Splendor with Grand Ceremony

Xia'n’s historic Huaqing Palace has unveiled a sweeping cultural revival project, transporting visitors to the golden age of China’s Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD). The UNESCO-listed site in Shaanxi Province now hosts daily immersive ceremonies featuring traditional court music, silk-clad dancers, and theatrical reenactments of imperial rituals.

Guests walking through the palace’s mist-covered hot springs and willow-lined courtyards hear live performances of ancient instruments like the pipa lute and dizi flute. Costumed interpreters demonstrate Tang-era tea ceremonies, while projections map the palace’s 3,000-year evolution—from Zhou Dynasty retreat to Emperor Xuanzong’s legendary love story with Yang Guifei.

Archaeologists recently restored nine pavilions using Song Dynasty blueprints, incorporating AR technology to visualize lost architectural details. A newly opened exhibition hall displays artifacts from recent excavations, including gilded hairpins and lacquered screens that reveal the luxury of Tang aristocracy.
