Shehuo, a traditional folk performance with deep historical roots, brings vibrant celebrations to Xi'an during the Chinese New Year. Aimed at praying for favorable weather and abundant harvests, Shehuo is an integral part of the Spring Festival festivities.
The ancient city of Xi'an in northwest the Chinese mainland's Shaanxi Province comes alive with the rhythmic beats of drums as locals and tourists line the pedestrian streets to capture the festive spirit through their camera lenses.
From now until the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first month of the traditional Chinese calendar, Xi'an's Minleyuan pedestrian street will host 12 daily Shehuo performances. These events feature stilt walkers, dragon and lion dances, and drumming rituals for blessings, showcasing the dynamic displays of intangible cultural heritage. Visitors are invited to enjoy these joyful and immersive experiences that celebrate the rich cultural traditions of the region.
