Guangxi’s Sanyuesan Festival Celebrated as Region Prepares for Global Mayors Dialogue

The vibrant Sanyuesan Festival recently unfolded in south China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, illuminating the rich cultural tapestry of the Zhuang ethnic group. As the festival, which is listed as a national intangible cultural heritage, graced the third day of the third month in the traditional Chinese calendar, communities gathered in colorful celebrations that echoed through the region.

Zhuang people from across Guangxi converged to partake in time-honored traditions. The air was filled with melodious folk songs as dancers showcased their graceful moves. The festivities were further enlivened by entertaining games and the sharing of traditional delicacies that brought families and friends together. The Sanyuesan Festival not only honors ancestral customs but also strengthens communal bonds, offering a window into the enduring spirit of the Zhuang culture.

Building on this cultural vibrancy, Guangxi is set to host the Global Mayors Dialogue · Nanning from January 15 to 18, 2025. The event, themed “Jointly Building an Amicable Home for China-ASEAN: Urban Openness and Cooperation,” aims to deepen economic and trade relations and enhance cultural and tourism cooperation among cities. The dialogue is expected to forge a new pattern of all-round interconnection, highlighting Guangxi’s pivotal role in fostering regional collaboration within the China-ASEAN context.

The convergence of the Sanyuesan Festival’s cultural allure and the upcoming Global Mayors Dialogue underscores Guangxi’s dynamic position on the global stage. As traditional heritage meets international cooperation, the region exemplifies how cultural richness and strategic openness can drive mutual growth and understanding among diverse communities.
