Confucius Cultural Festival Showcases Shandong’s Intangible Heritage

The 2024 China International Confucius Cultural Festival recently took place in Qufu, east China’s Shandong Province, offering a vibrant celebration of Confucian philosophy and traditional Chinese culture. The festival showcased more than 140 works of intangible cultural heritage from across Shandong, immersing visitors in a rich tapestry of art, music, and craftsmanship.

Held in the hometown of Confucius, the festival attracted scholars, tourists, and culture enthusiasts from around the world. Attendees had the opportunity to experience traditional performances, participate in workshops, and engage with artisans dedicated to preserving ancient techniques.

One of the highlights was the live demonstrations by master craftsmen, who showcased skills such as paper-cutting, shadow puppetry, and traditional instrument making. These exhibits not only highlighted the province’s cultural diversity but also emphasized the ongoing efforts to keep these art forms alive for future generations.

The festival also featured academic forums where experts discussed the relevance of Confucian teachings in modern society. Topics included ethics, education, and the role of culture in fostering international understanding.

Organizers expressed hope that the festival would strengthen cultural exchange and promote appreciation for China’s rich heritage. “By bringing together people from different backgrounds, we aim to build bridges of friendship and mutual respect,” one organizer noted.
