Cultural Event in New York Celebrates 74 Years of the People’s Republic of China

On September 28, China Media Group (CMG) hosted a special event titled “Written in the Sky: My China Story” in New York City to celebrate the upcoming 74th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

CMG President Shen Haixiong delivered a speech via video link, highlighting the global resonance of the event. The celebration attracted nearly 100 distinguished guests, including Chinese Ambassador to the United States Xie Feng; President of Kean University Lamont Repollet; Denis Simon, President of the Alliance of Global Talent Organizations and recipient of the China National Friendship Award; and David Firestein, President and CEO of the George H. W. Bush Foundation for U.S.-China Relations.

Shen noted that the event received over 1,600 stories from more than 60 countries, conveying shared emotions and aspirations from people worldwide. He emphasized that these stories showcase deep cultural and emotional connections between China and the global community.

Ambassador Xie Feng pointed out the long-standing tradition of letter exchanges between China and the U.S., documenting genuine feelings and narratives between the peoples of the two nations. He stated that through these “letters,” the event highlights the history of seeking common ground and peaceful coexistence between China and the U.S., as well as the persistent efforts to bridge differences and foster mutual understanding. Xie called for more dialogue and less suspicion, advocating for increased cooperation and reduced competition between the two countries.

Denis Simon stressed that exchanges between the peoples of China and the U.S., especially among younger generations, benefit both countries and the world at large. He expressed hope that people from both nations will enhance communication to tackle global challenges together.

David Firestein remarked on the close interconnection between the economies of China and the U.S., highlighting the need for cooperation in various sectors. He emphasized that both sides should continue promoting exchange and collaboration to achieve sustainable development in their relationship.

The event garnered significant media attention, being covered by 1,255 mainstream media outlets from 70 countries and regions.
