Cultural Events in Mexico City and Canberra Celebrate 75 Years of the PRC

Special cultural events celebrating the upcoming 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC) were held in Mexico City and Canberra, illuminating the deepening ties and shared cultural appreciation between China and the international community.

In Mexico City last Friday, “Written in the Sky: My China Story” brought together officials, diplomats, and cultural figures to share personal stories related to China. Launched by China Media Group (CMG) in March 2024, this series aims to gather narratives from around the world that reflect individual connections with China.

Shen Haixiong, vice minister of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and president of CMG, highlighted the unifying power of culture in his speech. “Different words convey common sentiments,” he remarked. “They represent the deep integration of emotions and cultures of countries around the world, embedding people's aspirations for peace and beauty, and condensing the profound power of friendship across borders.”

Echoing this sentiment, Zhang Run, Chinese Ambassador to Mexico, underscored the strengthening relations between China and Mexico. “This year marks the 52nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Mexico,” he said. “Over the years, thanks to the joint efforts of all sectors of the Chinese and Mexican communities, the traditional friendship between the two countries has continued to deepen. Each of these stories represents the dynamic development of the relationship between China and Mexico.”

Senator Yeidckol Polevnsky shared her personal journey with China, which began over 30 years ago. She expressed profound appreciation and admiration for China's rich history and culture. “China is a country with 5,000 years of civilization and a splendid culture,” she said.

Meanwhile, in Canberra on Monday, the celebrations continued with a focus on enhancing cultural understanding. Mark Bacon, former CEO of the Tasmanian branch of the Australia China Business Council, praised China's warmth and generosity. “My privileged position allowed me to enjoy the hospitality, which I will always be very thankful for,” he noted.

These events not only honor the 75th anniversary of the PRC but also strengthen international friendships and promote cultural exchange. They embody a collective aspiration for peace, beauty, and mutual understanding across borders.
