The first International Youth Poetry Festival is underway in Hangzhou City, east China’s Zhejiang Province, bringing together 72 young poets from BRICS countries and beyond. From July 19 to 24, these poets are gathering to exchange ideas and insights about poetry and culture, fostering international collaboration and understanding.
The festival includes 23 poets from China and 49 from countries such as Brazil, Russia, India, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Ethiopia, and more. This assembly of voices represents a rich tapestry of cultures and literary traditions, highlighting the global relevance of poetry.
On July 19, an impressive opening ceremony was held in Hangzhou, where poets from different nations recited their works, marking the official launch of the festival. The atmosphere was vibrant as the young poets shared their creativity and passion for the written word.
This festival is the international version of the Youth Poetry Festival, an event with a 39-year history hosted by the China Writers Association and the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Zhejiang Provincial Committee. The move to an international platform signifies a commitment to cultural exchange and the promotion of poetry on a global scale.
