Equestrian Events Kick Off 12th Ethnic Minority Games in Xinjiang

The 12th National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities have officially begun in Zhaosu County, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, with equestrian events marking the opening of the competition. Held from July 8 to 13, the games celebrate the rich cultural heritage and traditional sports of China’s diverse ethnic groups.

Zhaosu County, renowned for its expansive grasslands and equestrian traditions, provides an ideal backdrop for the event. Participants from various ethnic minorities across China are showcasing their skills in traditional horseback riding, racing, and acrobatics, preserving time-honored customs and fostering unity.

The National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities, held every four years, aim to promote cultural exchange and mutual understanding among China’s 56 ethnic groups. In addition to equestrian events, the games feature competitions in wrestling, archery, dragon boat racing, and other traditional sports.

Local officials hope the games will boost cultural tourism in Xinjiang, offering visitors a unique opportunity to experience the region’s natural beauty and cultural diversity.
