Shanghai Museum Hosts Largest Egyptian Artifacts Exhibition Outside Egypt

A remarkable collection of 788 precious artifacts from seven major Egyptian museums arrived in Shanghai on a specially chartered plane. These artifacts are set to be showcased in the upcoming exhibition \”On Top of the Pyramid: Exhibition of the Civilization of Ancient Egypt\” at the Shanghai Museum this July.

On June 17, the colossal statue of Akhenaten and a painted anthropoid coffin from the Saqqara archaeological site were the first to be unveiled at the Shanghai Museum, marking the beginning of preparations for what promises to be the largest and most prestigious display of ancient Egyptian artifacts ever to leave Egypt.

Highlights of the exhibition include statues of renowned pharaohs such as Tutankhamun, Amenemhat III, and Ramses II, a complete set of mummy coffins, exquisite jewelry belonging to ancient queens, and newly discovered painted coffins, animal mummies, and statues from the Saqqara region of Egypt.

The exhibition will officially open with a grand ceremony on July 18 and will be accessible to the public from July 19. It is scheduled to run for nearly 13 months, concluding on August 17, 2025, offering visitors an unprecedented opportunity to explore the rich history and culture of ancient Egypt.
