AI and Filmmaking Unite: New Visions Emerge at Shanghai Forum

The rapid development of artificial intelligence is making waves in the film industry worldwide. At a forum during the 26th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF), professionals from both the film industry and AI sectors gathered to discuss how the integration of these fields is creating new visions for sci-fi filmmaking.

Delivering a keynote speech at the forum, AI scientist Dai Bo likened AI to an artist’s brush, emphasizing that while AI is a powerful tool, it cannot replace the artist in creating artworks. Dai stated, “AI can enhance the creative process, but the human element remains irreplaceable.”

Dai, an expert in digital content creation using AI-generated content (AIGC) tools, highlighted that the combination of AIGC and the film industry provides greater room for imagination in science and technology development. He stressed that the future of film creation lies in the cooperation between AI and filmmakers, blending technological innovation with human creativity.

The discussion underscored a collaborative vision where AI serves as an enabler, allowing filmmakers to push the boundaries of storytelling and visual effects in sci-fi films. As AI technologies continue to evolve, their role in the film industry is expected to expand, fostering new opportunities for artistic expression and audience engagement.
