On June 12, the celebrated giant panda Fu Bao made her much-anticipated public debut at the Shenshuping Giant Panda Base, located within the Wolong National Nature Reserve in Sichuan Province. This appearance comes two months after her return to China from South Korea.
At precisely 9:00 a.m., Fu Bao leisurely emerged from her enclosure, captivating onlookers with her curious demeanor. Under the watchful eyes of her enthusiastic fans and members of the media, she explored her new surroundings with evident interest. Fu Bao sniffed around, marked her territory, and thoroughly examined her outdoor habitat before discovering the feast that had been thoughtfully prepared by her caretakers.
Fu Bao was born at the Everland Resort in South Korea in July 2020, the first giant panda to be born in the country. Her parents, Ai Bao and Le Bao, were loaned to South Korea by China in 2016 as part of a collaborative conservation program. Fu Bao’s return to China signifies an important step in the ongoing efforts to preserve and study this beloved and endangered species.
The Wolong National Nature Reserve, often referred to as the “home of the giant panda”, is renowned for its conservation work and breeding programs.
