Traditional Costumes Shine at Jiangsu College’s 60th Anniversary

In a vibrant display of culture and artistry, students at the Jiangsu Vocational College of Finance and Economics in Huaian, Jiangsu Province, adorned in traditional Chinese costumes, captivated audiences with a mesmerizing music and dance performance on Saturday. The event celebrated the 60th anniversary of the college, weaving together historical heritage and youthful exuberance.

The performance drew inspiration from the legendary Feitian, or Flying Apsaras, depicted in the ancient Dunhuang Grottoes frescoes. These celestial beings symbolize grace and harmony in Chinese mythology, and the students brought them to life through elaborate costumes and fluid choreography.

“We wanted to honor our college’s rich history while showcasing the beauty of traditional Chinese culture,” said Li Wei, a sophomore studying finance. “Embodying the Feitian allowed us to connect with our heritage and share it with our community.”

The Dunhuang Grottoes, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Gansu Province, are renowned for their exquisite murals and sculptures dating back to the 4th century. By drawing from this significant cultural landmark, the students paid homage to China’s artistic legacy.

The celebrations also included exhibitions of traditional crafts, calligraphy demonstrations, and interactive workshops for attendees. Faculty members expressed pride in the students’ dedication and creativity.

“Our students have demonstrated not only academic excellence but also a deep appreciation for our nation’s cultural roots,” commented Professor Zhang Ming, Dean of the Arts Department. “This anniversary is a testament to our commitment to holistic education.”

The event attracted alumni, local residents, and visitors, fostering a sense of community and continuity. As the final notes echoed and the performers took their bows, the audience erupted in applause, marking a memorable milestone in the college’s history.

The Jiangsu Vocational College of Finance and Economics continues to play a pivotal role in nurturing future professionals while promoting cultural awareness. The success of the anniversary celebration highlights the enduring relevance of traditional arts in modern education.
