Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang and Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov pledged to deepen bilateral cooperation during high-level talks in Ashgabat this week, signaling strengthened economic and diplomatic ties between the two nations.
At the April 17 meeting, Ding emphasized China's commitment to supporting Turkmenistan's national sovereignty while outlining plans to expand collaboration under Beijing's 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030). "Our comprehensive strategic partnership thrives on mutual respect and shared development goals," stated the senior Chinese official, who serves on the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.
The discussions focused on three key areas:
- Accelerating natural gas cooperation through existing Central Asia-China pipelines
- Developing new trade corridors under the Belt and Road Initiative framework
- Expanding technological collaboration in renewable energy and smart infrastructure
Berdimuhamedov confirmed Turkmenistan's support for China's core interests while welcoming increased Chinese investment. The Central Asian nation plans to prioritize joint energy projects and cultural exchange programs, building on what both leaders described as "2,000 years of friendly relations."
The talks concluded with mutual commitments to enhance coordination for the 2027 China-Central Asia Summit, which Beijing will host as part of its growing regional diplomacy efforts.
