China has called for restraint and dialogue as tensions escalate in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global trade route. On Monday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized that a blockade of the strait would harm international interests during a meeting in Beijing with Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Special Envoy of the UAE President to China. Wang stressed that achieving a lasting ceasefire through diplomacy remains the only viable path to stability.
The remarks follow US President Donald Trump's recent announcement to block ships from entering or exiting the strait after failed peace talks with Iran. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun reiterated that disruptions to navigation stem directly from the US-Iran conflict, urging all parties to 'remain calm and exercise restraint.' Guo affirmed China's readiness to play a constructive role in de-escalating the crisis.
With over 20% of global oil shipments passing through the Strait of Hormuz, analysts warn that prolonged instability could disrupt energy markets and supply chains. China, a key stakeholder in regional security, has consistently advocated for multilateral solutions to Middle Eastern conflicts this year.
