KMT Chair Concludes Landmark Mainland Visit, Eyes Cross-Strait Tech Collaboration

Cheng Li-wun, chairwoman of the Chinese Kuomintang (KMT), concluded a six-day visit to the Chinese mainland on April 12, 2026, marking the first such delegation led by a KMT leader in a decade. The trip, which included stops in Jiangsu Province, Shanghai, and Beijing, focused on exploring opportunities in technology and cultural exchange while reinforcing cross-strait dialogue.

During the final leg in Beijing, Cheng toured a Xiaomi auto factory, highlighting advancements in new energy vehicles. She later visited Tsinghua University High School to observe AI-integrated education and engaged with students developing robotics projects. At the Zhongguancun Exhibition Center, Cheng tested a "bionic intelligent hand" and discussed collaboration prospects with tech firms like Zhipu AI and Galbot.

"Without political obstacles, cross-Strait cooperation could make significant contributions to humanity," Cheng stated, emphasizing the potential for shared innovation. The delegation also visited cultural sites such as the Palace Museum, underscoring historical ties.

Song Tao, head of the Communist Party of China Central Committee’s Taiwan Work Office, bid farewell to the delegation at Beijing Capital International Airport. Analysts view the visit as a step toward stabilizing cross-strait relations amid global economic uncertainties.
