China’s Mine Safety Network Now Tracks 1 Million Sensors Nationwide

China's National Mine Safety Administration announced a major technological leap in workplace safety during its first-quarter briefing on April 11, 2026. A unified monitoring network now integrates real-time data from 1.06 million sensors across operational mines, representing one of the world's most comprehensive industrial safety systems.

System Capabilities

The network currently monitors:

  • All active coal mines and open-pit operations with high-risk slopes
  • 84% of non-coal underground mines
  • 940,000+ underground workers through positioning systems
  • 160,000 live video feeds from mining sites

Data-Driven Safety

Deputy Director General Zou Delun revealed the system processes over 5 billion daily data points, enabling predictive risk analysis. "This represents a 300% increase in monitoring depth compared to 2023 systems," Zou told reporters, emphasizing improved early warning capabilities for gas leaks and structural risks.

Industry Impact

The integration comes as China's mining sector sees increased automation, with safety becoming paramount for both state-owned enterprises and overseas investors. Analysts suggest the technology could set new benchmarks for extractive industries across Asia.
