British Explorer Rides Movie-Themed Train to China’s Qikou Ancient Town

British traveler Rees Tyrrell recently embarked on a cinematic journey through Shanxi Province, riding a high-speed train inspired by the 2026 Chinese animated film Nobody. The themed train, which connects Taiyuan to the historic Qikou Ancient Town in Lyuliang, blends modern rail innovation with cultural storytelling, offering passengers an immersive experience tied to the film’s rustic landscapes and folklore themes.

Qikou, a riverside settlement famed for its Ming and Qing dynasty architecture, served as a key setting in Nobody, a film celebrated for its artistic homage to rural China. The train’s interior features murals and digital displays showcasing scenes from the movie, while onboard staff wear costumes reflecting the animation’s traditional aesthetic. "It felt like stepping into the film itself," Tyrrell remarked, highlighting the seamless integration of art and travel.

Local authorities report a 22% increase in tourism to Qikou this year, attributing the surge to the train’s launch and the film’s global popularity. Analysts suggest such initiatives underscore the Chinese mainland’s strategy to leverage cultural assets for sustainable tourism growth. Meanwhile, rail operators plan to expand themed routes to other heritage sites, aiming to attract both domestic and overseas travelers.
