China has mobilized its domestically developed AG600 amphibious aircraft in a two-unit formation to bolster wildfire response efforts during the high-risk spring fire season. The deployment, announced this week, underscores the country's push to modernize its emergency rescue infrastructure amid rising climate-related challenges.
According to the Aviation Industry Corporation of China, aircraft numbered 1102 and 1103 were recently stationed in Guangdong Province for forward-positioned firefighting missions. The operation has completed its initial phase, marking a significant upgrade to the region's aerial firefighting capabilities. The AG600, dubbed 'Kunlong,' can carry 12 metric tons of water per trip and rapidly refill from reservoirs, making it critical for containing large-scale blazes.
Analysts note this deployment aligns with broader efforts to integrate advanced domestic technology into public safety systems. Guangdong, a densely populated economic hub, faces heightened wildfire risks due to unseasonably dry conditions this year. Authorities emphasize the aircraft's dual role in disaster relief and regional stability, particularly as cross-strait collaboration on emergency management continues to evolve.
